Christina Psomas, MD, PhD Interview


Christina Psomas is Specialist in Infectious Diseases, clinician and researcher, at the University Hospital in Montpellier, France.

She is well recognized for her work on HIV persistence and HIV inflammation with a series of international papers on these topics.

She agreed to answer a couple of questions.

Dr Philippe Halfon is Actively Involved in the International Symposium on HIV, Hepatitis Viruses and Emerging Infectious Diseases (ISHEID). Today, he speaks about HCV care and the consequences of PrEP in terms of HCV epidemic.

Philippe-HalfonPhilippe Halfon is a clinician in infectious diseases and a researcher; mainly in virology and in oncology.
He is the Head of the Department of infectious diseases and internal medicine the European hospital of Marseille (France) and manages the laboratory Alphabio.
His main research topics concern the resistance of the Hepatitis C (HCV) virus to directly active antiviral drugs, the characterization of latent HIV reservoirs, the characterization of biomarkers in molecular oncology and the pharmaceutical development of anti-cancer molecules targeting the cancerous stem cells.

Exclusive: Dr Vazilakis NiKolaos Interview about Zika Virus in relation with the forthcoming 2016 International Symposium on HIV & Emerging Infectious Diseases, Marseille, France

Dr-Vasilakis-Zika-IsheidDr. Vasilakis earned his BA and MA degrees in biology from Hofstra University. He worked for a number of years at Wyeth Research, where he developed vaccine candidates for pediatric diseases based on alphavirus gene delivery systems. Dr. Vasilakis returned to academia to obtain his PhD degree from UTMB, studying sylvatic dengue in the lab of Dr. Scott Weaver.  After a brief postdoctoral position at the University of Pittsburgh, he came back to UTMB, where he studies the evolution and pathogenesis of arthropod-borne viruses, virus–mosquito, and virus–host interactions using sylvatic dengue as a model, for which he developed with Malaysian collaborators a field study in Borneo.  Additionally, as member of the World Reference Center for Emerging Viruses and Arboviruses (WRCEVA), he utilizes Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) to discover, characterize and annotate new and novel viruses that could lead to the development of successful countermeasures for a number of veterinary and human diseases.

The 2016 International Symposium on HIV & Emerging Infectious Diseases will take place in Marseille, France on May 25-27

MarseilleThe Deadline for abstract submission is February 28.

This year, the ISHEID will combine plenary talks, practical workshops, poster discussion and new topics such as Zika virus research, Ebola research...

Internationally renowned speakers such as Roy Gulick (who will give a "Joep Lange Memorial Keynote Lecture"), Daniel Kuritzkes (who will give a lecture on HIV cure) and Dan Barouch (who will give a lecture on the development of an HIV vaccine) are scheduled...and much more...

01-HIV-STOPThe Seventh International Workshop on HIV Persistence during Therapy has been held in Miami, 8-11 December 2015.

A summary is now available as a scientific article published in the Journal of Virus Eradication which is available online free of charge.
